Why New Zealand farmers use it

New Zealand grazing systems live or die on pasture. Whether you are managing a 24-day round in spring or stretching a rotation through a dry February, the decision comes back to how much feed is in front of the cows and how fast it is growing.

Most farms still walk with a rising plate meter, and plenty walk with nothing at all. Pasture Ai replaces the walk-and-click with a photo: stand over the sward, take the shot, and the assessment is saved against that paddock before you have opened the next gate.

Because every round is stored, cover history and pasture growth rate build automatically. The Farm Walk plan turns those assessments into a feed wedge and a PDF you can send to staff, a consultant or the bank.

Frequently asked questions

How does it compare with a rising plate meter?

A plate meter samples where the plate lands and depends on an equation calibrated for that season. Pasture Ai reads the sward from the photo and also returns feed quality — DM%, CP%, MJME and NDF% — which a plate meter cannot give you. Many farms run both for a round or two, then use the app on its own.

Does Pasture Ai work on New Zealand farms?

Yes. Pasture Ai works anywhere you have a phone. The model reads sward height, density, colour and structure from the photo itself, so it is not tied to one country's pasture type.

Do I need a plate meter or any hardware?

No. A smartphone is the only device required. There is no plate meter, no C-Dax, no sensors and no calibration equipment to buy or maintain.

What does it measure?

Pasture cover in kgDM/ha, plus DM%, CP% (protein), MJME and NDF% for feed quality. Every assessment is saved against the paddock with the date and location.

Can I do a whole farm walk?

Yes. Assess each paddock in turn and the Farm Walk plan builds a feed wedge, calculates daily pasture growth rate in kgDM/ha/day and produces a PDF report.

How much does it cost to try?
